Created under the Canadian chairmanship of the Arctic Council (2013-2015), the Arctic Economic Council (AEC) is an independent organization that facilitates Arctic business-to-business activities and responsible economic development. The AEC aims to reflect the significance of current Arctic business activity and serve as the synthesis of Arctic business perspectives for consideration by the Arctic Council.

Each Permanent Participant organization, as well as member state of the Arctic Council, is eligible to name up to three business representatives to the Arctic Economic Council.

GCI was active in the Arctic Economic Council until 2019.
